Healthy milestone for Nuffield’s £1.6m diagnostics investment

A 4.5 TON magnet has been delivered to Nuffield Health York Hospital, marking a milestone in the installation of a £1.6m diagnostics suite.

The magnet, which was lifted in by crane, is part of a static MRI scanner which is being installed at the not-for-profit hospital based on Haxby Road.

It is part of the hospital’s existing suite of diagnostic equipment including mammography, x-ray, ultrasound scanning and bone densitometry.

Matthew Lamb, Nuffield Health York Hospital’s director, said: “This investment adds to, and will improve, the service we deliver to our patients that are referred for MRI by their GPs or patients who opt to pay for themselves.

“This moves us from a mobile service provided by a third party, three days a week, to a five day bespoke service to benefit all patients with rapid access appointments, same day scanning and in some cases immediate reporting after examinations.”
