BLACKS Solicitors have been putting law students from the University of Leeds’ LLB course through their paces as part of a mock interview scheme.
Each year the university teams up with a local law firm, and the students are invited to visit the firm’s offices to experience a one-to-one interview, which is followed by feedback.
First launched in 2012, the mock interview scheme gives undergraduate students an opportunity to practise their technique and develop their confidence, ahead of their training contract interviews.
Paul Wragg, director for employability at the University of Leeds, said: “We were delighted to team up with Blacks Solicitors this year to offer our law students this invaluable interview experience. Feedback from attendees has been highly positive, reinforcing our belief that this is a very beneficial exercise.”
Paul Kelly, partner in the employment team at Blacks Solicitors, added: “It was a pleasure to support the University of Leeds with this scheme, and we are delighted with the students’ feedback.”

SHEFFIELD law firm Taylor&Emmet is donating a tail-wagging £2,000 to its furry friends at local animal charity, Rain Rescue.

The money is the result of a year of fundraising by the solicitors who have been supporting the shelter for neglected cats and dogs through the firm’s annual charity initiative.

Taylor&Emmet HR and training assistant, Victoria Jackson, championed Rain Rescue and led the firm’s fundraising efforts, undertaking a sponsored skydive in April. A cross-department team also completed the Sheffield Half Marathon, whilst a number of dress down days and bake sales have been organised, culminating in a final Christmas jumper event last week.

Claire Fletcher, Taylor&Emmet’s marketing co-ordinator, said: “We are very pleased to be handing over such a significant sum of money to Rain Rescue at a time of year when demand for its services peaks. My colleagues have demonstrated nerve, physical stamina and questionable sartorial taste in support of this small, yet vital local charity and their efforts are much appreciated.”
