£150m Leeds city centre scheme takes big step forward

REDRAWN plans for a £150m mixed-use development on the edge of Leeds city centre have been approved by Leeds City Council.
The much-delayed Quarry Hill scheme now has renewed momentum after it secued outline planning permission.
Caddick Developments was chosen as the preferred developer in 2002 and the scheme was approved in principal in 2005. Amended plans for the 685,000 sq ft scheme received unanimous approval from the council’s planning committee.
Johnny Caddick, director of Caddick Developments, said: “Leeds is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK and we’re really pleased that Caddick can play its part in its regeneration, which will have a positive impact on the whole of the city.”
The plans for Quarry Hill are for 106,000 sq ft of offices, 35,000 sq ft of leisure, more than 700 residential units, a multi-storey car park, 7,500 sq ft retail facilities and a medical centre.
Quarry Hill, which is next to West Yorkshire Playhouse and the BBC studios, and opposite the new Victoria Gate scheme, will form part of the city’s cultural wuarter.
Sarah Friskney, senior development surveyor at Caddick Developments, added: “Our focus now will be on working up detailed plans and build momentum to set us on the right path to deliver our vision for Quarry Hill.”
