Drive-in cinema plans shelved after complaints

PLANS for a outdoor drive-in cinema in Scarborough have been scrapped.

The council has rejected plans for a permanent cinema site proposed by Moonlight Movies.

Objections were raised over light and noise pollution environmental health officers as well as residents of the Crossgates area.

54 people registered their complaints to the council, saying the site was “not in keeping with the area”.

Ben Stonehouse, of Moonlight Movies told the BBC: “We would have liked to keep the business in Scarborough but the council seems set against us.

“It has been a really good tourist attraction for the town. We’ve had people coming from as far as Sheffield.”
