Green light for 18th century listed building development

DEVELOPERS have been given the green light to revamp a listed York property in an £11.5m scheme.
The City of York Council has agreed to let developers S Harrison transform the former Larence Street working men’s club.
The site, which has been vacant for nearly a decade, is also home to The Tam O’Shanter pub.
S Harrison subitted plans to develop it into a 115-bed student accommodation in November.
Work will begin in April, in time for the 2017 academic year to start.
The development will include two, three and five bedroom apartments, as well as a gym, cinema, common room and study areas.

Chris Hale from S Harrison, said: “We are delighted to secure planning permission for this development.
“The main building has been derelict for years and has deteriorated into an eyesore, so we’re looking forward to safeguarding its future and creating a superb student development that is within easy reach of both York city centre and The University of York.
S Harrison is currently working on a 240 bed student development in Edinburgh and a 63 bed scheme in Newcastle that are both due to complete later this year.
