West Yorkshire brewery produces country’s second-best winter beer

ELLAND BREWERY’S 1872 Porter has been named the second-best winter beer in Britain at CAMRA’s National Winter Ales Festival.
The Keighley brewery took its multi-award winning porter to the final after a long process of local tasting panels and regional heats.
The 1872 Porter is a rich, complex and dark porter from an original 1872 recipe, with an old port nose, and coffee and bitter chocolate flavours on the palate. It was named as Supreme Champion Beer of Britain crown in 2013.
The brewery said they were “over the moon” after winning the porter category and coming second overall.
CAMRA national director Nik Antona said: “No beer gets through to the final of the Champion Winter Beer of Britain without being good, and our three finalists really stood out for our judges in Derby.”
Chocolate Marble, from Manchester brewery Marble, was crowned the Best Winter Beer in Britain at the festival.
Elland Brewery was formed through the merger of The West Yorkshire Brewery and The Barge and Barrel Brewing Company in 2002, and was renamed as Elland Brewery in 2006.
