3,000 jobs promised as logistics hub gets go-ahead

DEVELOPERS Sterling Capitol have received the go-ahead for a distribution hub it said would create “thousands” of jobs.
In partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency, and advised by Indigo Planning, the collaboration put forward plans for a large-scale employment hub in Goole.
The East Riding of Yorkshire planning committee agreed to the distribution development, which will create 3,000 jobs.
Two parts of the project have been proposed: Goole36 and Capitol Park.
The HCA will take on Goole36, whilst Sterling Capitol will take the lead on Capitol Park. It will design and build a development close to the existing Tesco regional distribution centre, Drax biomass facility and the Guardian Glass factory.
Leisure facilities, car showrooms and a 100-bed hotel are included in the plans.
Initial planning was granted in 2008, which was then deferred. The HCS replaced its development partner after the demise of Yorkshire Forward.
Mike Heydecke, on behalf of Sterling Capitol, said: “This is a significant development for us, underlining our commitment to Capitol Park Goole. These exciting plans will create much-needed business space and jobs in the Goole area.
“As a company, we are extremely proud of what we have achieved in Yorkshire. Job creation is at the heart of our plans and we have developed some of the most impressive business parks in Yorkshire, with an excellent mix of tenants and facilities. Premier business locations, like our Capitol Parks at Goole, Leeds and Barnsley remain popular in a testing economic climate.”
Nick Fillingham, associate director at Indigo Planning, said: “Goole36 and Capitol Park now represent a major opportunity in the East Riding area, offering significant potential for employment and distribution development on a strategic site close to the M62 and the ports at Goole, Grimsby, Immingham and Hull.
“Their location within the country’s largest Enterprise Zone is a clear signal of the growth opportunities they represent and the creation of over 3,000 new jobs will provide a significant boost to the local economy.”
