Top 5 cocktails in Leeds

ON Wednesday night, Cocktails in the City gave us a sneak preview of all the bars and their signature cocktails that will be lining up to refresh the people of Leeds on 7 and 8 April.

Mojo, Rum Punch

Leeds favourite Mojo, which is setting its sights on the capital, has cooked up a classic rum punch. Homemade sorrel and hibiscus syrup with lime juice, and Appleton Estate VX Rum, dash of water (in true Caribbean style) and lime juice. A sprinkling of cinnamon on top is the finishing flourish to a great summer cocktail, refreshing and not too sweet.

Roxy ballroom, Figgin’ hell it’s hot

Pushing the boat out, at cocktail from the Roxy Ballroom group mixes Venezuelan, 18 month-aged Pampero rum with lime and fig liqueurs and egg white as well as ginger and cloves. This one’s got a kick but it gives a taste of the Mediterranean.

The Brotherhood, Espresso Martini

A growing favourite among, well, everyone, the espresso martini is set to become a classic. The Brotherhood’s version gives it at Irish twist, with Pogues Irish Whiskey, Irish cream liqueur, espresso and vanilla gomme, sprinkled with shaved chocolate. A bit of indulgence while it’s still a bit nippy out there.

Bar Soba – Chris’ shandy

Named for the bartender we lassoed into making us this unusual pseudo-cocktail. This one adopts Bar Soba’s Asian themes with a Tsingtao beer, a squeeze of lemon, lychee liqueur, all mixed with homemade lemongrass and ginger lemonade. One of the most drinkable and tasty beverages of the night. Hangover-friendly.

Chaophraya’s own cocktail

Leeds Thai staple Chaophraya isn’t especially known for its cocktails, but it should be. This delightful mix of Whitley Neill gin, a little ginger, Licor 43 vanilla liqueur with lemon juice, sugar syrup and a dash of galangal.
