150 jobs promised at logistics site

THE ground was broken on the first phase of a 250,000 sq ft development at Parkside Business Park in Doncaster, which is set to create 150 full time jobs.

Two warehouses will be built, totally 80,000 sq ft in the first phase. They are expected to be completed in autumn 2016.

Regeneration and construction firm St. Modwen marked the official start to work on the site with an event attended by the Mayor of Doncaster and Councillor Bill Mordue, Portfolio Holder for Business, Skills, Tourism and Culture at Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, marked the official start of work on site.

Rob Richardson, development manager at St. Modwen, said: “This groundbreaking ceremony is a major milestone and the start of a new chapter in the long and important history of this site to Doncaster and aligns with our strength of regeneration.

“This is a significant development, bringing further investment and employment opportunities to the town. Our plans to progress with a speculative development demonstrates our commitment and confidence in the town and its significance within the growing regional economy.”

Tim Hazeltine, inward investment manager at Business Doncaster, said: “Doncaster’s economy seems to have found a new confidence with a number of exciting developments being delivered. This comes at a time when there seems to be a strong pent up appetite for new quality accommodation.”

Lindum has been appointed by St. Modwen as the lead construction contractor, whilst property consultants CBRE will be marketing the new buildings.

Mike Baugh, senior director at CBRE, said: “Phase 1 of Parkside Business Park presents a superb opportunity to address the current shortfall in warehouse / industrial accommodation in Doncaster and the South Yorkshire region.

“The scheme has been designed to ensure that the specification, layout and size range will generate mass appeal. St. Modwen has a proven track record of delivering excellent quality in design and finish. The development is already being well received.”

As well as Parkside Business Park, St Modwen Waterdale Shopping Centre, including the delivery of 22,000 sq ft of improved and modern retail, leisure and office space. The final phase of development at Crompton Retail Park, including a new 10,000 sq ft Farmfoods store, is also expected to be completed in 2016.
