Event to help exporters boost online trade overseas

EXPORTERS are being given the opportunity to seek advice from experts from the world of international e-commerce on how to sell online overseas at an event next week.

Staged by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) Yorkshire and the Humber, the Digital Solutions Day on Tuesday March 15 at Royal Armouries in Leeds will feature speeches from senior representatives of e-marketplace firms such as Wn Direct, Lengow, Channel Advisor and Pentagon and digital trade advisors from UKTI itself.

Topics to be addressed include managing e-marketplaces worldwide such as Amazon, eBay, Allegro, LaRedoute, PriceMinister, NewEgg, Trade Me and Cdiscounts, managing logistics, returns and fulfilment, UKTI’s e-exporting programme and international cross-border VAT.

The global cross-border business-to-consumer e-commerce market will increase in size from $230bn in 2014 to about $1trn in 2020, according to a report by global consulting firm Accenture and AliResearch.

By 2020, more than 900m people worldwide will be international online shoppers, with their purchases accounting for almost 30% of all global B2C transactions.

Those attending the event will be advised on how to understand the breadth and range of international e-marketplaces, establish the best route for a business to succeed in online sales overseas, and avoid pitfalls which can harm online export performance.

Mark Robson, UKTI regional director for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “e-commerce both at home and overseas is increasing exponentially both in Yorkshire and the Humber and indeed elsewhere in the UK and this event will give both established and first-time e-exporters the chance to share in the sector-leading knowledge and expertise of those who trade successfully online in markets abroad.”
