Machinery supplier to add 30 jobs as its relocates HQ

A specialist machine parts supplier has relocated its UK head office to Barnsley, creating up to 30 jobs.

MOBA UK has recruited nine people to date and is aiming to boost its workforce to support its move.

The firm, which supplies control systems to the waste logistics and construction industry, has doubled its UK turnover to £2.5m in the last two years. It is now hoping to reach £5m sales by the end of 2017.

MOBA UK has moved to new 13,000 sq ft premises at Park Springs industrial estate, Grimethorpe. The site is 40 per cent larger than its previous Buckinghamshire base. It retains an additional workshop and administration centre near to its former head office.

The company has invested £60,000 in to create bespoke workshop, office and conference facilities. It will pump in an additional £400,000 in equipment, technology and staff over the next three to five years.

MOBA UK saw its turnover double to £2.5 million in the last two years and aims to increase sales and double turnover again by the end of 2017.

The firm, which was founded in 2011, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of German-based MOBA Mobile Automation group. Its parent company has established operations in a dozen countries including Spain, India, Italy, China, Brazil and the USA.

Managing director Ian Lewis said the company wanted a base between Nottingham and Leeds with access to the M1 corridor in order to serve its UK customer base.

He said: “After looking around widely, we decided this large, modern unit in Barnsley was the perfect fit for our business and growth plans.

“The position and facilities are just right; its 10 minutes from the M1 and we are already working with local engineering suppliers and have used local contractors to upgrade our premises. We look forward to growing our business as part of Barnsley’s expanding economy.”
