Lifestyle: ArtWaves Festival; La Boheme; Sheffield FC

THERE will be an ‘urban edge’ to this year’s ArtWaves Festival at The Spa in Bridlington, a free two day event taking place next month.

In the late 1980s, as graffiti started to evolve from its underground roots, Bridlington played host to the National Graffiti Championships, inviting world renowned artists to showcase their talents.

ArtWaves will see the return to some of those artists to the festival alongside the traditional art forms represented for a contemporary street art twist.

The programme features a tailored street art exhibition showcasing artistic talent from some of the hottest contemporary urban artists.

Festival director Lauren Frost said: “I am thrilled to be working with some of the UK’s best street artists and bring a new level of art to the festival that was previously touched on at the last festival.

“Street art appeals to a whole new audience for its quirky and unique approach. My concept for the festival is to bring together traditional and contemporary art and the street art offering certainly compliments that ideology.”

The ArtWaves Festival takes place on May 14 And 15.
