‘Life-threatening’ injuries lead to thousands in fines for signage firm

SHEFFIELD signage company Warburtons Signs has been fined following an incident during an industrial job.

The firm was contracted to erect a sign at the gable end of a large building. A worker fell five metres from a flat roof, sustaining life-threatening injuries, including a fractured skull, several broken ribs, a collapsed lung and chipped vertebra.

The Health and Safety Executive looked into the incident which occurred on 13 April 2015.

The HSE found Warburton Signs Limited failed to put in place any measures to prevent a fall from height.

The firm pleaded guilty and was fined £20,000 and ordered to pay costs of £1538.

HSE inspector Helen Barley said after the hearing: “Failure to prevent falls when working at height can lead to serious injury or death.”
