Law firm and university join forces for business training venture
A LAW firm has teamed up with the University of York to deliver employment law and discrimination awareness training to businesses.
Lupton Fawcett Denison Till, based in York, Leeds and Sheffield is offering the training following dicussions with Amanda Selvaratnam who heads up the university’s corporate training team.
Brian Harrington, a director of employment law at the firm’s York office, said: “As a firm we have specialised in delivering practical employment law related workshops and training for a number of years. However, the decision to partner with the University of York means that we are now able to deliver training that has been formally accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management.”
Ms Selvaratnam said that the ability to offer employment law and discrimination awareness training was a welcome addition to the university’s existing leadership and management programme.
She said: “The diverse make up of modern workplaces means that managers are increasingly called upon to deal with complex personnel and human resource related issues. If employers are to avoid disputes arising then they need to take steps to ensure that their managers are equipped with the skills and expertise necessary to recognise potential discrimination situations and deal with them effectively.”
The University of York’s corporate and professional training programme offers a range of courses which allow individuals to attend individual sessions or to complete a programme of study which enables them to gain a recognised qualification in leadership and management.
Businesses with fewer than 250 employees based in Leeds, York and Harrogate may also be able to access funding covering up to 50% of training costs through the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership.
