SME: HD Business Works; Ciao Date; DrainsAid

A GROUP of business owners in Huddersfield have joined forces to launch a support group to fellow entrepreneurs.

Named HD Business Works, the group has been set up as a community interest company to ensure any profits made will be recycled into further support for the HD community.

Led by Jonathan Hill of Meltham-based accountancy practice Pierrepont, HD Business Works aims to help firms who have a base, or operate within, an HD postcode through advice and support from established businesses across a wide range of sectors.

The support and guidance on offer centres around the key areas of owning and operating a business, both on a day-to-day and on a strategic basis.

Collectively the group has more than 100 years’ experience and includes local firm’s Breakthrough, Delicious Media, LimeTree Europe, MacComms, Pierrepont, Riasca, Simply Customer, The Implementer and Truefleet.

Specialist expertise covers accounting, marketing and PR, sales, customer journey, project management, international trade, website development, design, office supplies and fleet management.

Mr Hill said: “HD Business Works’ mission is to help small business, which in turn helps other business, helping put the HD postcode on the map as the place to do business.”

Ciao DateA University of Leeds graduate has launched an innovative dating app that allows users to match based on interests and preferred activity choice, along with budget and location.

Alex Ziff, founder of Ciao Date, recognised that the most popular dating apps were good for facilitating quick hook-ups, but he felt that there was an integrity and romance missing from the experience.

“Ciao Date encourages people to get on the date quickly, not spend weeks messaging each other in advance. As a nation we’re becoming more reliant on smartphones, and as a result becoming lonelier in the long term. Ciao Date harnesses the popularity of using apps on a daily basis, but brings people together in an old school romantic way. It has the potential to change the face of dating,” said Mr Ziff.

“As with any project like this, it’s been a journey of ups and downs, but the confidence and experience I developed at Leeds University has really kept me going. Now I’m in the position to get really excited about Ciao Date, and its potential to revolutionise dating in the twenty-first century,” he said.

“I’ve no doubt that my achievements since graduating are attributed to the University of Leeds. My university experience was unparalleled, the three years I had in the city were incredibly formative and influential and I certainly owe the success of Ciao Date to it.”
