Region to reap benefits of £4bn aerospace deal

THE diversity of South Yorkshire’s manufacturing community will ensure the region benefits from the UK’s £4bn Airbus and Rolls-Royce Indonesian aerospace deal.

That was the message from business leaders at a trade mission event organised by UKTI, the South Yorkshire International Trade Centre (SYITC) and the British Indonesian Chambers of Commerce held to welcome a delegation of ten Indonesian companies.

Adrian Short, president director of PT Rolls Royce Indonesia, delivered a presentation at the event at the Advanced Manufacturing Park shortly after the news that Southeast Asian airline Garuda Indonesia had signed a £4bn UK deal with Airbus and Rolls-Royce.

Head of SYITC Nick Patrick said: “After the UK agreement was signed by the two British manufacturing giants at Downing Street, a delegation of ten Indonesian companies, and Chris Wren, CEO of the British Indonesian Chambers of Commerce, travelled to visit the Sheffield city region business community.

“They were welcomed at our UKTI/SYITC ‘Breaking Barriers’ event at the Advanced Manufacturing Park where the Indonesian representatives, from a range of sectors including manufacturing, digital and professional, were very pleased to meet so many South Yorkshire businesses.

“Due to the phenomenal supply chain requirement, some of which will come from South Yorkshire’s diverse manufacturing community, many businesses in our city business region stand to benefit from this recent announcement.”
