Morrisons makes pledge to former staff at crisis-hit retailer

MORRISONS has said it will offer jobs to My Local staff if the convenience chain it used to own goes under.

Greybull Capital bought the My Local brand from Morrisons for £25m in a deal fronted by Secret Millionaire star Mike Greene, but on Tuesday the owners filed its intention to appoint administrators.

KPMG has been lined up to handle the potential administration and could be formally appointed as early as next week, according to reports.

Morrisons said in a statement: “We are saddened and disappointed to learn that My Local is about to enter administration. We want to help our former colleagues who now work for My Local.

“We can therefore confirm that if no buyer is found, and stores close, we will welcome our former colleagues back to a job at Morrisons.”

The news of My Local’s potential administration follows the collapse of BHS earlier this month, which put 11,000 jobs at risk.

Sir Philip Green plans to offer jobs to 1,000 workers who staff Arcadia concessions inside BHS, such as Dorothy Perkins and Wallis.
