£10m plans submitted for North Yorkshire retail project

MARKS AND SPENCER is set to make a return to the North Yorkshire city of Ripon, after plans were submitted to Harrogate Borough Council.

The proposed £10m retail development would see the British brand’s Foodhall offering return after a seven-year hiatus. It would create 80 new full and part-time jobs for the city.

The Rotary Way site is being planned by Rothstone Estates and Peveril Securities Limited, and would include a 9,000 sq ft M&S site, three smaller units of between 3,000 and 5,000 sq ft.

Mark Rothery, managing director of Rothstone said: “We’re delighted with the response and have submitted an application for a development that we believe will bring real benefits to the city.

“We have had some very positive discussions with a number of retail occupiers who are interested in coming to Ripon and taking one of the smaller units alongside the M&S store. These are new names to Ripon and don’t currently have stores in the city, including Pets at Home.”

If planning permission is granted the new development could be open by summer 2017.
