Walker Morris offers capital advice

YORKSHIRE law firm Walker Morris has been appointed by the London borough of Bexley on an innovative customer service improvement programme.

The Leeds-based firm’s legal experts will assist the council’s in-house legal team to find a private sector partner for the redevelopment of the council’s civic offices in Bexleyheath.

The project is a key part of Bexley First, the council’s business change programme, which aims to improve customer services for the borough’s 218,000 residents.

Mike Ellsmore, assistant director of audit, technical and exchequer, the council’s lead officer on the procurement project said: “Bexley is working to find a development partner through a process of competitive dialogue.  Walker Morris will use their extensive public and private sector experience in the areas of procurement, property developments and regeneration to assist the in-house team to help the council bring the detailed dialogue to a successful conclusion.”

Andrew Uprichard, a partner in Walker Morris’ Commercial Group said: “With our experience in advising local authorities on mixed use schemes under the competitive dialogue we are delighted to have been appointed by the London borough of Bexley on this key part of the Bexley First transformation programme.

“We will be assisting the in-house legal team with the detailed dialogue stage of the competitive dialogue process as well as with the development and finalisation of the legal documents.”

Walker Morris has built a reputation in advising local authorities on regeneration schemes, advising Liverpool City Council on the £350m Anfield Regeneration scheme and is currently advising Craven District Council on its Skipton Market Town Renewal scheme.
