5 things to do in Yorkshire this weekend

1. Sweeney Todd
Date: Friday 5th – Saturday 13th August
Location: Pick Me Up Theatre, 41 Monkgate,York

It’s brutal, it’s macabre, it’s full of black humour – and it’s proven to be one of Stephen Sondheim’s biggest hits.

Sweeney Todd tells the well-known story of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who seeks revenge against those who separated him from his wife and child by making them into pies.

2. Gruffalo experience
Date: Monday 18th July – Wednesday 31st August  
Location: Meadowhall, Sheffield

Following the sell-out success of last year’s event and back by popular demand, The Gruffalo Experience has returned to Meadowhall shopping centre this summer holiday, giving children the opportunity to step into the pages of the famous, Gruffalo tale.

The experience is a fun and interactive journey into the deep dark wood where there will be the chance to meet the much-loved characters, including The Gruffalo himself.

3. Belgrave Feast
Date: Saturday 13th August
Location: Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen, Leeds

The Belgrave Feast, which returns on the second Saturday of every month is back this weekend with street food, craft beer, art and music across its three floors.

Entry is free and children and dogs are welcome. The Guardian described the monthly event as “a real festival experience and a street food Mecca.”

4. Sheffield Film and Com Con
Date: Saturday 13th – Saturday 14th August
Location: Sheffield Arena, Sheffield

The Film & Comic Con is back at the Sheffield Arena this weekend and will be bringing some of your favourite stars from TV, film and comics as well as a whole host of fun activities including photo shoots with the stars, panels, autograph sessions and hundreds of stalls full of TV and film memorabilia.

5. The Hull Show
Date: 11am-8pm Saturday 13th – Sunday 14th August
Location: East Park, Holderness Road, Hull

With a huge funfair, live entertainment, music, local traders, food & drink, there’s something for everyone at this year’s Hull Show.

Not only will there be performances from some of the most talented canines, camel racing, medieval jousting and a display from the UK’s leading motorcycle group, Broke FMX will also be on the agenda this weekend.
