THE high street has been a turbulent place of late, with the shutdown of BHS, employment woes at Sports Direct and administration of smaller retailers such as Austin Reed, and it was no different for Bonmarche this week.

Although it may in quite as bad shape as any of these high street stalwarts, Bonmarche has been struggling of late, its share price dropping since the announcement that chief executive Beth Butterwick would be leaving.

The age-old excuse of dodgy weather did not fly with investors, but new chief Helen Connolly promised turnaround plans, so it’s a case of “watch this space” to see if she can turn the retailer’s fortunes around.
