£37m leisure resort given the go-ahead

PLANS for a £37m theme park in South Yorkshire have been given the green light.
Gulliver’s Valley Resort at the Pithouse West site near the Rother Valley Country Park has been given the go-ahead by the council just over a year after plans were announced.
Land will be transformed into a leisure resort including themed accommodation and glamping facilities.
Two hotels will be built on 333-acre site as well as twelve lodges, with attractions aimed at two to 13 year-olds.
Gulliver’s Valley Limited bought the land in September 2015, and it was previously home to the Brookhouse Colliery.
Initial plans stated that 255 jobs would be created at the development, and the first phase would take around two years.
The company is part of a second generation family business, which began as a model village created by Ray Phillips in Matlock Bath in 1976.
It has theme parks in Milton Keynes, Warrington and Matlock Bath.
At the time the plans were announced, Julie Dalton, managing director of Gulliver’s, said: “We’re really excited at the prospect of realising our dreams at Gulliver’s Valley and reproducing all the best elements of our existing three UK parks together on one site.
“We want to create a ‘whole park feel’, with nature trails, walks, outdoor gyms and woodland runs which can be used by our guests and the local community alike. Plus of course, the family theme park hub, which will be developed and operated in line with our core value of providing great value family days out that are big on fun.”
