Wind turbine company to invest in new operations centre

A WIND turbine support company is planning to invest in a new operations centre in Hull after announcing the sale of its recruitment business.

TRG Wind has concluded a deal with Garness Jones for space at a business park close to Hull’s expanding renewables sector.

David Elcombe, managing director of TRG Wind, said clients will benefit and the company will grow as it concentrates on offering its range of specialist added value services to wind industry manufacturers, developers and operators.

The recruitment business has been acquired by Nico Young, formerly operations co-ordinator at TRG Wind, who becomes managing director and 100% shareholder of the newly created RS Wind.

Mr Elcombe said both businesses will operate separately and independently.
He said: “In the past we have been supplying personnel to the industry and we have also supplied packaged and fixed price services such as retro fits and installations. We think we can bring in more work if we separate recruitment from the rest of what we do so we have decided to sell that side of the business.”

Mr Young will head up RS Wind with a small admin team and a database of thousands of candidates.

He said: “My team and I are extremely excited to continue our specialist personnel provision under RS Wind. The transition of our workforce and clientele will be a seamless one as this is very important for us and our clients. We look forward to continuing our impact on the market, supplying quality personnel to wind farms on and offshore. We wish TRG the very best of luck in the future.”

Mr Elcombe added: “The recruitment side of the business is important and we have a responsibility to our clients so it makes sense to separate it from the rest of the business given that TRG Wind’s focus is on other areas such as maintenance, quality supervision and installation.”

TRG Wind was formed in 2014 by individuals who brought together experience in onshore and offshore wind in partnership with specialists from the finance and recruitment sectors.

The company provides experienced wind turbine technicians and supervisory services to wind turbine manufacturers and operators.

It selected Hull as the base for its European offshore operations and opened an office at The Deep Business Centre during the summer.

Mr Elcombe said the new premises at Tower House Lane Business Park will support further expansion as TRG Wind aims to build on turnover of £1.5m during its first year, with expectations of growth by 150% during 2016.

He said: “At the moment almost all our work is onshore and overseas. There is the potential to increase that and to expand our activities in the offshore sector. Hull’s port facilities and the growing renewables sector are important factors in our growth, as is the fact that a lot of people in the area have worked offshore.

“The new operations centre gives us more space for our tools, protective equipment, clothing and vehicles. Our office in Bromley will continue to be the main finance and admin centre.”
