New chapter for country house built for Charlotte Brontë’s physician

AN historic property which was built for Charlotte Brontë’s physician has come on the market with a price tag of £650,000.

Ashmount Country Hotel is a five star country house in Haworth, West Yorkshire. The property itself dates back to 1870, and was built for Dr Amos Ingham.

Leisure property specialists Fleurets is marketing the property’s freehold.

Nick Thomas from Fleurets’ Leeds office said: “Accommodation led, Ashmount is a successful, luxury operation with plenty of repeat and regular custom. It also offers new owners the opportunity of continuing to run the business along established lines, or exploit the potential to increase trade by the promotion of non-resident dining trade. Furthermore, there is lapsed planning permission to add a conservatory and an additional ground floor letting bedroom.

“Management accounts, show sales for the year to September 30 2015 of £380,670 net of VAT. There are plenty of avenues to look at with Ashmount, which is reluctantly being offered for sale due to the ill health of one of the owning partners and at asking price to encourage early interest.”

Ashmount was acquired by the current owners just over 10 years ago, and then run as a low-key Bed & Breakfast business. In the intervening time the owners have developed Ashmount into a luxury small hotel and guest house.

The village of Haworth nestles in the Worth valley and the surrounding countryside formed a back drop for the novels of the Brontë sisters.
