Former Gatecrasher nightclub opens its doors after £11m revamp

THE doors to an £11m student complex on the site of the former Gatecrasher nightclub in Sheffield have opened to tenants.

The first residents have moved in to Gatecrasher Apartments, after developers brought a new lease of life to the site.

The site, on the corner of Arundel Street and Matilda Street, comprises 243 beds, mostly in clusters of three, four and five beds, and all en-suite.

Communal features include a gym, cinema room, a lounge and an internal courtyard landscaped as a record turntable to reflect the previous use of the land, which is on the doorstep of Sheffield Hallam University.

Gatecrasher Complex SheffieldGatecrasher Apartments is part of the West One accommodation portfolio that already embraces student flats in Sellers Wheel in Arundel Street, Huttons Buildings in West Street and at Broomgrove Apartments on Broomgrove Road, as well as the West One residential, leisure and commercial development in Fitzwilliam Street.

Andrea Marsden, marketing and residential manager, said: “Gatecrasher Apartments has been many years in the making so it’s fantastic to see it come to life. It’s a landmark development for Sheffield with such a historic past and has been a great project to be part of.

“The complex is in a very exciting area of the city in the Cultural Industries Quarter, close to amenities and just a short walk to Sheffield Hallam University, making them an ideal choice for students.”

The Gatecrasher complex also has commercial and office units at ground level.
