Former quarry in North Yorkshire put up for sale
A WORKED OUT limestone quarry in the Yorkshire Dales, which has potential to be transformed for a range of leisure or commercial uses, is up for sale.
Construction materials company Hanson UK has appointed Dacre, Son & Hartley to market Giggleswick Quarry.
The 31.1 acre site, which is less than a mile away from Settle town centre, is surrounded by stepped benches up to a height of approximately 100 feet, with a large flat area in the centre of the quarry’s void, which could be developed subject to relevant planning consents.
Hanson, which operates the nearby Horton Quarry, closed the site 10 years ago after successfully extracting all the planned reserves.

It’s a truly unique opportunity, in a stunning location, at the southern end of Giggleswick Scar. Hanson UK communications manager David Weeks said: “This quarry has provided a vital supply of limestone for local use for many years and employed many local people. We would love to see the site being put to beneficial after-use.”
