Alternative routes during Bridgewater Place wind works

Companies based near Granary Wharf in Leeds are still open for business despite the recent closure of Water Lane due to construction work around Bridgewater Place, the building’s owner has said.

Work on the wind mitigation scheme, which will see a number of wind baffles erected at the foot of Yorkshire’s tallest building, began earlier this month.

Part of the road, from the junction with Victoria Road to the entrance of Bridgewater Place and Lloyds, has been closed until early May.

To compensate, alternative routes to Granary Wharf have been devised by CPPI, the owner of Bridgewater Place, and Leeds City Council to ensure businesses don’t lose out on trade.

Nick Sinfield from CPPI said: “While it’s unfortunate that Water Lane has been temporarily closed to allow us to start work on the wind defence system at Bridgewater Place, we and the city council have come up with a number of new routes to make sure local businesses don’t suffer.

“The alternative routes seem to be working well and we’ve been happy with the response from businesses so far. Water Lane will reopen in the spring and we will keep people updated on our progress at Bridgewater Place over the coming months.”

CPPI said piling works, the first stage of construction, will continue through to April before the baffles are installed later in the year.
