Wellhouse wins Hyundai contract

CAMPER van builder Wellhouse Leisure is set to almost double its turnover with a new contract from Asian car giant Hyundai.

Wellhouse is to convert the company’s i800 model into camper vans in a deal that will see the finished vehicles sold through Hyundai’s network of dealerships.

The contract is expected to add £3m over the next two years to Huddersfield-based Wellhouse’s current turnover of £3.5m, capping a period of significant growth that has seen the company grow from employing nine staff in 2008 to 30 now.

Wellhouse director David Elliott said: “It is fantastic for a company our size to start dealing with someone like Hyundai. The fact that they are looking at selling them in their dealerships is a big step up for us.

“We are delighted that a company the size of Hyundai has seen the build quality of a Yorkshire company’s manufacturing expertise.”

Wellhouse recently started selling vehicles through subcontracted outlets in Scotland and Cornwall as well as expanding its operation in Yorkshire.

The company was set up in 2003 as a business converting second-hand Japanese people carriers into camper vans.

It now converts new vehicles and also has a parts business servicing other companies doing similar work which already has a £1m turnover nine months into training.

Mr Ellliot praised Business Link Yorkshire and the Manufacturing Advisory Service for their support.
