ATH wins contract with ScottishPower

ATH Resources, the Doncaster-based operator of coal mines and land remediation projects, has signed a contract to supply 800,000 tonnes of coal.

The three year deal will see ATH supply coal from its Muir Dean mine in Fife to ScottishPower.

ATH said that taking into account current pricing levels in the coal futures market, turnover under the contract should exceed £40m.

The new agreement takes the level of coal to be supplied by the company under long-term sales contracts to a total of more than four million tonnes.

Tom Allchurch, chief executive of ATH Resources, said “I am delighted that ATH Resources has signed another long-term sales contract demonstrating the continued strength of the coal market and the potential for a significant increase in our average selling prices over the next four to five years.”

AIM-listed ATH has four mines in profduction in East Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway and a major reclamation project in Yorkshire.

The company is the UK’s third largest coal producer.

In 2006, the Group acquired Doncaster-based A Ogden & Sons – a successful coal recovery, land remediation and regeneration business with a particular focus on colliery spoil heap reclamation projects.

The acquisition, recently renamed ATH Regeneration allows ATH to build on its skills as a regenerator of land, while developing strong relationships with key English planning authorities.
