Redworth bucks the trend with record year

YORKSHIRE construction company Redworth Construction is moving to new headquarters after a record-breaking year which saw it increase turnover by 25% to £30m.

The Malton-based company is moving to its own £5m development at Manor Park, Old Malton, later this year and is looking to take on more staff as it bucks the dowturn in the property sector.

Howard Rogers, Redworth’s managing director, said: “I would like to pay tribute to every single one of my superb staff, who have made Redworth what it is today and who have enabled us to enjoy such an excellent, record-breaking year.

“We are all pulling together and working hard for each other. This gives us confidence as we tackle the challenges ahead.

“Our turnover target was £30m for 2008 – and we achieved that. We also have a healthy order book, with some projects not completing until 2010.

“As everyone knows, these are difficult economic times. But we are delighted to be bucking the trend and we continue to invest significantly in the company. We are especially proud to be a Yorkshire company which is winning contracts right across the UK in different sectors.”

The company is working around the country on projects in locations including Penrith, Cambridge, Barnsley, Fleet, Southampton, Reading, Bromley and Liverpool.

Current projects include a £3m contract to build 29 flats for the elderly in Penrith for Methodist Homes; a £6m contract to build a 110-bed care home and 12 apartments for Ranc in Cambridge; and a £3.8m contract to build a specialised residential facility in Barnsley.

Redworth is also working on its own £3.5m care home development at Heckmondwike in West Yorkshire and is actively seeking more sites to develop across the country.

The company has also won two new BUPA contracts, while Caring Homes has been secured as a new client, with the award of a contract to build a 56-bed care home and close care bungalows in Reading.

Mr Rogers said: “These contracts are a good indication of Redworth’s skills and expertise. While we have established an excellent reputation within the care homes sector, we also have a growing track record of success within the child care and homes for and social housing sectors, too.”

The contracts came hard on the heels of Redworth Construction’s contracts, valued at £4.2m, to build a sixth form centre and an animal care home and sports hall for Norton College in North Yorkshire. Both projects have now been successfully completed.

Work has now started on its two-acre Manor Park development, which will be the home of its new headquarters.

The site will comprise 27,000 sq ft of prime office development in five buildings, each with their own car parking and cycle bays. The buildings are available on leasehold or virtual freehold.

The offices can be divided to suit requirements from 1,000 sq ft upwards. Redworth is taking 6,000 sq ft and the development should be completed this year.
