Platts joins LBS board

FORMER Deloitte senior partner Les Platts has joined the Leeds Building Society board as a non-executive director.

Mr Platts retired from Deloitte in 2008 where he was audit partner and practice senior partner for the North East.

He is currently a non-executive director and chair of the audit and risk committee for Manchester-based financial services firm A J Bell Holdings.

Mr Platts said: “I have advised at board level on a wide range of financial, commercial and governance issues for more than 20 years and I am delighted to be joining the board of Leeds Building Society.

“Leeds has played an important part in my career and both my son and daughter study in the city at the College of Music and University respectively.

“The UK’s fifth largest building society is a successful, independent member owned business, with a strong well-capitalised balance sheet, and I look forward to using my experience to add value to the members and staff of this long established and successful organisation.”

Mr Platts, a chartered accountant, started his working career in 1975 with Touche Ross, becoming audit partner and staff partner in Deloitte’s North West practice and later audit partner for the North and Midlands.

Robin Smith, Leeds Building Society’s chairman, said: “This is an excellent appointment and I am delighted to welcome Les to the Board.

“His skill and expertise will help us to build on our financial strength and enable us to continue to deliver outstanding results.”
