Wednesday to make High Court plea

SHEFFIELD Wednesday could be put into administration today if the High Court rejects the club’s latest plea for a stay of execution over a winding up petition brought by HM Revenue and Customs over a £600,000 unpaid tax bill.

Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric yesterday failed to agree terms with a major shareholder after making an offer for the club.

A number of other offers are on the table but if the High Court rejects The Owls’ plea, its main creditors the Co-Operative Bank are expected to put the club into administration.

That would mean a 10-point penalty in League One but, perhaps more importantly, could jeopardise the club’s future.

Club directors met on Tuesday with officials from the Co-operative Bank, Wednesday’s main creditor who are owed £23m, to try to formulate a deal but it now appears as though the club will be forced to file for administration in the wake of Mr Mandaric’s withdrawal.
