Damart expands with 40 new jobs

THERMAL underwear maker Damart is to create more than 40 new jobs at its Yorkshire call centre following a 20% increase in sales over the autumn and winter.

The company, which has expanded its range to include women’s clothing, footwear and accessories, sells its products via catalogues to more than one million customers across the UK.

Now it plans to extend its Bingley-based call centre’s operation hours from July and will start recruiting next month.

Damart’s managing director, Andy Hill said: “We’ve had a very successful season with sales up by more than 20% on the previous year and early indications are that the spring/summer collection will sell well.

“We now want to further improve our service to customers by developing our call centre to give an even better service.

“Not only will this expansion create new jobs, it will also increase flexibility for the existing 120 staff who will now have the opportunity to work in the evenings and at weekends to meet the requirements of our customers call patterns.”

Although traditionally best known for thermals the vast majority of Damart’s sales come from its extensive range of women’s clothing, footwear and accessories which are now regularly featured in key women’s fashion magazines.

Damart employs 770 staff at three UK sites – its head office in Bingley which houses the call centre, Steeton which has a state-of-the-art warehouse and sends out more than 150,00 items per week and Earby in Lancashire which distributes the company’s catalogues and marketing materials.
