Your Region Needs You: complete our major business survey

YORKSHIRE’S business community is being given the opportunity to have its say on the impact of the year’s major business, financial and political issues in a new survey by TheBusinessDesk.com, in association with law firm DLA Piper.
The last 12 months have been a time of uncertainty for the economy, with the fall-out from the General Election, Budget and Comprehensive Spending Review still being felt.
Many businesses, across all sectors, are uncertain about what the future holds as public spending is cut and access to finance for growth is proving hard to come by.
TheBusinessDesk.com, in association with leading law firm DLA Piper, is launching its State of the Region Survey on Monday to gauge business sentiment.
Your answers matter and knowing how time is precious for those running businessws, we have made the survey quick and simple – it will take you no more than three minutes to complete.
We will be running a series of stories on the survey results from each of our Yorkshire, North West and West Midlands regions in the New Year and comparing the findings from the three.
In addition, we will be identifying the important issues that matter to the region’s firms and then lobbying on their behalf for the changes they want to see happen in the future, as well as comparing the results from this year’s survey to one TheBusinessDesk.com ran last year.
TheBusinessDesk.com is delighted to be on this milestone project with leading law firm DLA Piper.
The survey will be available to complete from Monday.
Steve Sly, managing partner at DLA Piper in Sheffield, said: “With a General Election, formation of a new coalition government, an Emergency Budget and Comprehensive Spending Review, 2010 has been another roller-coaster year for UK, whilst international markets have seen their own ups and downs.
“In our own region, the demise of Yorkshire Forward has generated mixed reaction between those who saw RDAs as providing valuable strategic services and those who felt business support could be better delivered elsewhere. Either way, most would agree that the transition between RDA to LEP, and the funding shortfall in our regional budgets will create various challenges for our local area as we move forward.”
Neil McLean, managing partner at DLA Piper in Leeds, added: “When we launched the State of the Region survey this time last year, there was a general sense within the business community that 2010 would see a stabilising in our economy, and 2011 would see a return to economic growth.
“As we take stock of the last 12 months and look forward to a new year, it will be interesting to see how Yorkshire now views its prospects for 2011 – if confidence has increased even further, or do businesses foresee new challenges on the horizon?”
