Care home starts with funding

CONSTRUCTION work has started on a 60-bed specialist care home in South Yorkshire which could create dozens of jobs.
Situated in 2.8 acres on the site of the former Moorgate hospital in Rotherham, the care home will be built in three separate units that are linked by a central hub.
South Yorkshire-based care home operator Rotherham Healthcare has started construction on the site in a deal funded by The Royal Bank of Scotland’s healthcare team.
Each unit will boast 20 bedrooms with en suite facilities comprising a walk-in shower, and will be spilt into five pods.
Each pod will provide an open plan kitchen / dining room and living room to encourage a ‘family’ environment, independent living, and promote rehabilitation.
Facilities will include a hydrotherapy pool, rehabilitation gym and a recreational room.
Due for completion in November, the care home has been designed by Peter Westwood of Westwood Knowles Design, and is being built by BCP.
The building will create up to 80 full and part time jobs ranging from nurses, care staff and housekeepers.
Rotherham Healthcare was established in 1984 by mother and son, Glennys Oliver and Trevor Payne.
The pair have built three care homes in Rotherham – Moorgate Lodge, Moorgate Croft and Moorgate Hollow.
Glennys Oliver, director of Rotherham Healthcare, said: “The new care home will provide a unique layout and is the only one of its kind in Rotherham. There is a strong demand for specialist residential care across Rotherham and our aim is to provide residents with a high standard of care in a homely environment where they can relax in smaller, familiar surroundings whilst receiving the necessary care.”
Funding was provided by RBS’s Sheffield-based specialist healthcare team.
Paul Turner, associate director of healthcare at RBS, said: “Glennys and Trevor are experienced healthcare operators and have a long record of delivering excellent care facilities. When complete, this latest care home will offer a much needed facility for the local community in Rotherham.”
