Tony Griffiths

Blackpool-born Tony has nearly four decades of manufacturing experience in South Yorkshire.

He joined the former J A Wilkinson & Co in 1986 as a 17 year old on a placement having gained experience at Notts and Derbyshire Engineering Training Association, New Era Steel Fabrication and Vimic Engineering.

This was his first full-time job in the fabrication department, then called Hawkes Metalex, where he worked until he was promoted to a supervisor at PCT Automotive in 1992. Two years later he switched department to become a supervisor at Hawkes.

After leaving the company to set up his own fabrication business in 2000, he was enticed back in 2013 to Steetley Corner Group, where a year later he passed NVQ5 in supervisory management and was then appointed Production Director.

Tony’s route through the company means he is a huge advocate of apprenticeships having learned on the job, and says the skills, values and on-site education gained is something you don’t get from a classroom.

His mantra is if you are good at what you do, you will always have work.
