Hambleton Bakery launches Plum Shuttle

Plum Shuttle

Award-winning Hambleton Bakery, which has stores located across the East Midlands, is launching a new product in celebration of Rutland’s independence.

A ‘Plum Shuttle’ is a traditional Rutland product and this will be the first commercial production of the delicacy since 1890.

The Plum Shuttle is a yeast-leavened bun made in a hand-filling oval shape, said to mimic the shuttle that the hand-weavers of the Vale of Belvoir used. The dough is enriched with butter and currants flavoured with ginger and Caraway seeds. The buns are made like bread, kneaded, risen, knocked back and kneaded again, then glazed with beaten egg.

Hambleton Bakery owners Julian Carter and Tim Hart dreamt up the idea as way to contribute to the county’s 20th anniversary of Rutland’s independence celebrations.

Hambleton Bakery, which was named as one of the best bakeries in the UK by the Sunday Times in 2016, was first launched in 2008 by owners Julian Carter and Tim Hart in a bf to produce quality traditionally made bread for Hambleton Hall.

These days, the business now has six bakeries, as well as a range of products in farm shops, delis and cafes as well as restaurants and gastro pubs.

The limited-edition Plum Shuttle is available until 30th April 2017 in any Hambleton Bakery store. Stores are located in Exton, Oakham, Stamford, Market Harborough, West Bridgford and Oundle.

The shops are open 6 days a week in Market Harborough, Oakham, Stamford, Oundle, Exton and West Bridgford, giving locals plenty of time and opportunity to try the Plum Shuttle.
