University of Law to open Nottingham campus
A Nottingham city centre office building looks set to be turned into a new campus for an organisation that will train the next generation of the region’s lawyers in a move that will create 47 jobs.
Planning permission has been granted for The University of Law to occupy the building as an educational establishment providing lecture and teaching space to law students, but also to enable the building to retain its office use. Information submitted with the application says that the University of Law would occupy the whole of the 29,000 sq ft building, which was being marketed by FHP Property Consultants.
A spokesperson for The University of Law told TheBusinessDesk.com: “Following extensive market analysis we identified Nottingham as a target location for a new campus in the UK. Nottingham’s excellent transport links, good range of law firms and businesses make it an ideal base for The University of Law. Although plans are at an early stage we are excited about the possibility of opening a new campus in Nottingham and aim to be fully open for business by September 2019.”
The University of Law is the UK’s longest-established specialist provider of legal education and training in the UK, with campuses in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Chester, Guildford, Manchester and Leeds, as well as at The University of Exeter, The University of Reading, and The University of Liverpool.
The courses to be offered at the proposed Nottingham campus would be linked to the local law firms and businesses and will include flexible and modular programmes that would support apprenticeship programmes. There will be around 860 students enrolled on courses, with most of them post graduates, typically in their early twenties, but there will only be around 290 students on site at any one time.
1 Royal Standard Place is in The Ropewalk area of Nottingham, close to Nottingham Castle and the residential area known as the Park. The building dates back to the 1990s and formed part of the redevelopment of the former Nottingham General Hospital.
