WMCCE 2011: Staffordshire scaffolders lift performance to win SME Award

AM SCAFFOLDING Solutions has transformed its business to win this year’s SME Award at the West Midlands Constructing Excellence Awards.

When Adam Gwynne became sole director of Stoke-on-Trent-based AM Scaffolding Solutions in 2005, he took a giant leap of faith to change all of the systems the company was using for a new scaffold system.

This bold move has paid off and with intensive training of its 10-strong workforce and significant new investment in equipment the company has become a leader in its field across the region.

The business, which provides innovative access solutions, equipment hire and training, has secured a good pipeline of public sector construction work.

It is an approved access supplier to Kier Stoke, a joint venture partnership between Kier and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, and works on many public buildings in the city.

AM Scaffolding Solution’s impressive WMCCE Award win coincides with a drive from the Government to demonstrate the importance of SMEs in the construction industry.

WMCCE Phil Wilson, executive director at the West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence, said: “AM Scaffolding Solutions is an excellent example of a specialised SME using the latest scaffolding systems and its extensive knowledge to meet the needs of contractors.

“In the West Midlands, SME involvement in projects can undoubtedly provide a much-needed stimulus to local economic development and this has now been recognised by many local authorities and the newly formed Local Enterprise Partnerships.”
