ENTERPRISING individuals and businesses from across the West Midlands have been recognised for their endeavours at Buckingham Palace in the 2011 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.
Ten West Midlands companies travelled to the palace to meet her Majesty and other members of the Royal Family.
Among them was Delcam, based in the Small Heath area of Birmingham, which develops and supplies software for the three-dimensional design, manufacture and inspection of complex shapes.
It has won the Queen’s Award for the sixth time and also picked up its third award in the international trade category for growing its export sales by 86% over six years, totalling nearly £200m over this period.
The awards are made annually by HM The Queen and are only given for the highest levels of excellence demonstrated in each category.
Enterprising individuals were also recognised including Dr Geoffrey Davies OBE, chairman of the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership, who picked up the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion.
It rewards individuals who have played a significant role in promoting the growth of business enterprise, entrepreneurial skills and attitudes in others.
Dr Davies is also managing director of the Alamo Group Europe, based in Evesham, and his work as a business ambassador and chairman of the Shropshire Business Board has benefited several hundred companies.
He devised the Business Enterprise Grant Scheme which has helped 138 Shropshire companies in just 12 months.
