New collaboration sparks Energy Catapult

The Birmingham-based Energy Systems Catapult and the trade body representing the interests of trade associations in the energy and power industry have signed a new collaboration agreement.

The former declaration between the catapult and BEAMA (British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers Association) was signed at the former’s new offices at Cannon House.

The agreement, signed by the two chief executives, will see the two bodies work jointly to benefit the energy industry. One key element is that both parties work together to address current and emerging energy market challenges.

Philip New, chief executive of the Energy Systems Catapult, said: “It’s exciting to mark the official opening of our new office in Birmingham with the signing of this collaboration agreement.

“The energy revolution is happening – and it is only through collaboration – with industry, policy-makers, academia and customers – that we can achieve real, exponential change in creating a cleaner, smarter and fairer energy system.”

As part of the agreement the Catapult will become a member of the strategic BEAMA Energy Systems group. The two organisations will also seek to deliver joint project opportunities and will share best practice, initiatives and experience.

Dr Howard Porter, chief executive of BEAMA, “BEAMA believes that working with the Energy Systems Catapult will greatly assist the move of the UK’s energy system to become smarter, allowing greater levels of clean renewable energy onto the grid, and helping to manage the energy bills for householders and businesses.

“The manufacturers of the equipment for the electricity grid and within all building types will provide the technology to deliver the low carbon networks of the future.”

The two organisations are already collaborating on a range of areas including a potential project for the Midlands Engine, an industry-led sector plan on Low Carbon Digital buildings and electricity networks, as well as exploring ways to assist UK energy innovators to better access international markets.
