Airline plans massive expansion at Birmingham Airport

Just a month after launching its new services from Birmingham Airport, airline and holiday operator Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has announced it is to expand operations from the hub.

In a much-expanded summer flights and holidays programme, the company will launch 13 new destinations from next summer, bringing an additional 900,000 seats. The flights will be served by two new aircraft.

The expansion means the company will operate a total of 28 destinations in for summer 2018 programme.

The new destinations include: Halkidiki – which will be an exclusive destination from Birmingham Airport, with services operating weekly; and twice-weekly services to Turkish resort, Antalya, the Costa de Almeria, Kos, Krakow, Poland, Larnaca, Madeira (weekly), Malta (weekly), and then again twice-weekly to Naples, Prague,  Rome,  Split  and Zante.

In addition to these, there will also be increased capacity existing destinations including Malaga, Alicante, Ibiza, Reus, Majorca and Menorca.

The airline has invested in two additional Boeing 737-800 aircraft to cope with the expected demand.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said the launch of the Birmingham had proved very successful.

“On the back of this, we are delighted to be announcing a hugely expanded summer 18 programme, giving holidaymakers across the region access to a fantastic choice of sun and city destinations, and even an exclusive route to Halkidiki,” he said.

“Such success in a brand new base shows that our formula is the right one with customers, so as well as looking forward to our first summer at Birmingham Airport this year, we are already making big plans for summer 18.”
