Law firm’s revenues rise

Law firm Bevan Brittan enjoyed steady growth in 2016/17, helped by launching its first northern office.

Turnover for the year increased to £39.2m, up from £37.5m the year before, while net profits rose by £1m to £8m.

Bevan Brittan has offices in London, Birmingham, Bristol and – since September 2015 – Leeds.

It is the fifth consecutive year of growth for the business, which was also appointed to NHS Resolution and Places for People’s PFP Procurement Hub, to advise on the Birmingham Smithfield regeneration scheme and is acting for A Shade Greener and Hornbeam Park.

During the year, the number of partners increased to 58, with four external hires and two internal promotions. 11 graduate trainees joined the firm – its highest intake since 2009. Nine school leavers joined as apprentices, who are now working towards becoming chartered legal executives.

The firm brought the jobs of 90 administrative staff working on contract at Bevan Brittan’s four UK offices in-house, so they are now employed directly by the firm

Bevan Brittan managing partner Duncan Weir said: “By continuing to deliver sustainable growth and profitability, our year end results reflect what has been a confident and successful year for the firm. We have a sound financial platform to further deliver excellent client service in the year ahead.

“Bevan Brittan is benefiting from a clear strategy to broaden our markets and range of clients, to continue to invest in our teams, new hires and new technology and the opening of our Leeds office.”
