The University of Warwick has chosen Kier to redevelop its Cryfield Student Village in a £57m project that is one of the largest single residential build projects the University has undertaken.

The construction group will create a miniature village on campus, with a series of townhouse apartments and studios surrounding the hub building in the centre. Kier will deliver 828 student bedrooms in a mixture of townhouses and cluster blocks as well as student facilities.

Mark Pausey, Kier Construction Central’s managing director, said: “This £57m win is another significant award for Kier in student accommodation and takes the total number of rooms we’re currently providing for the University to over 1,000.”

The existing five accommodation blocks of the Redfern halls of residences will be demolished to make way for the 12 buildings that make up the village. The first students are due to move in summer 2019, with overall completion by Christmas 2020.

Kier has a strong foothold in the further and higher education sectors, where they are building over £100m of facilities for universities across the country, including University College Birmingham, the University of Cambridge and University of Edinburgh.

Pausey added: “The demand for student accommodation across the UK has been increasing 17% year on year and this latest scheme builds on our excellent track record in the higher education sector including projects with the University of Northampton and University of Lincoln.”
