Compton launches new strategy, including £2.5m new care development

Wolverhampton-based care provider Compton is rebranding as Compton Care, and investing £2.5m to build a central hub of expertise.

The Care Coordination Centre is part of Compton Care’s plans to use the £2.5m investment to better coordinate patient care and strengthen its service delivery at its sites across Wolverhampton, the Black Country, Staffordshire and Shropshire.

Of this investment, £1.5m has come from tire company ex-Goodyear. The remaining £1m comes from Compton, who plans to invest a further £1m every year for the forseeable future on the centre.

The company is also removing “hospice” from its name to challenge the fear surrounding early care, after a large number of respondents to its patient, staff and sector survey said they associate the word with being “a place you go to die”.

Claire Marshall, chief executive of Compton Care, said: “Our research with patients, families and supporters highlighted key challenges surrounding access to hospice care – namely fear about who we are and what being referred to us means.

“We’re on a mission to remove this fear and break down barriers to service access to ensure more patients get referred to us earlier, so we can treat them sooner and help them live better lives.”

Building work starts on the Care Coordination Centre this year, with completion pegged in for Spring/Summer 2019.
