Birmingham suffers first restaurant casualty of 2019

Jailbird, the New York-style restaurant which launched in Birmingham city centre in May, has become the first restaurant to close in the the city this year.

The restaurant welcomed guests on New Year’s Eve but has now closed its doors.

2018 was a difficult year for the casual dining sector, with independent restaurants including Turners at 69, Rofuto and The Smoke Haus closing, alongside chain restaurants operating in the city such as Cau, Strada, Mission Burrito.

Lasan group has removed Jailbird from its website

Birmingham restaurant group Lasan, which runs Lasan, Fiesta del Asado and Raja Monkey, opened Nosh & Quaff on the corner of Colmore Row and Waterloo Street in July 2015.

However the group decided to replace its lobster and burger offer with Jailbird eight months ago with the aim of increasing the number of diners but has admitted defeat after less than a year.
