Rapid response vehicle drives into Solihull

Birmingham charity Arrive Alive has launched a rapid response vehicle for FastAid Solihull.

Arrive Alive launched two rapid emergency medical response vehicles in July 2018 to be operated within Birmingham and surrounding areas.

A third vehicle has been launched to operate within Solihull and surrounding areas.

The Silver Second Appeal is an appeal launched by Arrive Alive, which is the only charity in the UK providing support to voluntary led emergency medical assistance in conjunction with the ambulance service.

Each rapid response vehicle and piece of equipment provided by Arrive Alive is solely funded by public donations and does not receive any National Lottery or government funding.

The inspiration behind the appeal was Ellie, the daughter of Debbie Roscoe, fundraising director of Arrive Alive.

Ellie contracted a severe case of Measles, upon hospitalisation she developed various complications with her lungs and liver. During the illness her mother contacted 111 for advice and was quoted a wait of two to four hours for medical assistance.

Subsequently The Silver Second Appeal was launched in 2017.

The Silver Second Appeal plays a vital part in the future of the development of voluntary community based emergency medical assistance as a rapid response vehicle can arrive within those vital seconds to initiate lifesaving medical assistance within their community prior to an ambulance.

The vehicles are operated by Community First Responders (CFR’s) who are dispatched via a 999 call and are trained to assist in a medical emergency.
