Cannock council appoints developer for £20m Moss Road scheme

CANNOCK Chase Council has appointed Keepmoat Homes to build the first council houses in the district for 25 years as part of its regeneration strategy for the Moss Road Estate in Chadsmoor.

The redevelopment scheme will replace 170 structurally defective ‘Reema’ flats with a mixed tenure scheme of 142 houses for rent, shared ownership and outright sale. This will include 65 houses for rent from Cannock Chase Council and 20 houses for shared ownership. The remainder will be provided for sale by Keepmoat.

Environmental improvements and enhanced play facilities, together with employment and training opportunities, including the creation of new craft apprenticeships, will also form part of the scheme.

The £20m scheme will be funded from housing revenue account capital resources, cross subsidy and funding from Keepmoat.

The redevelopment scheme is programmed to start later this year.

Keepmoat was selected following a competitive procurement process through the Homes and Communities Agency’s partner delivery panel.

Paul Degg, new build managing director for Keepmoat in the Midlands, said: “Building high-quality new homes is key for continuing to deliver regeneration to the Moss Road Estate.

“The fact we have won this new contract to build 142 new homes is testament to the great reinstatement work Keepmoat carried out on more than 100 council homes last year.”
