Law firm underlines ambition with assault on London market

COVENTRY law firm De Marco Solicitors is embarking on its biggest expansion to date with a move into London and the Home Counties.

Sandra Garlick, the firm’s principal, said the decision to expand into London and surrounding counties had been prompted by an increase in clients from those areas.

She said the move was a significant development for the business and one which had prompted it to recruit an experienced practitioner.

It has strengthened its team of employment and business law specialists with the appointment of Inderjeet Johal, a Hertfordshire-based solicitor who will lead the firm’s growth into London and surrounding areas.

Johal, from Letchworth Garden City, is a senior business and employment solicitor with a wealth of international experience in commercial and corporate law.

He graduated in law from the University of Sheffield and holds a Masters of Law degree (LLM) from the University of Hertfordshire. He worked in industry before qualifying as a solicitor in 1995 and spent time in private practice prior to working at senior level in-house with companies including Volkswagen Group UK, Abbey National, ABN Amro and Kendle International Inc. His areas of speciality include IT and communications, outsourcing, intellectual property, competition, media, contract, sport and employment.

Johal will work alongside Ms Garlick to spearhead the move into London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, as well as Cambridgeshire.

The firm has also invested heavily in cloud-based technology to enable its lawyers to work remotely from any location, and have access to virtual offices with facilities to meet clients.

“Within our team of employment and business law specialists, we have the corporate expertise of a major firm.  However, we can offer that City expertise without the London rates because we have invested heavily in technology to allow us to work remotely and more efficiently and effectively,” said Ms Garlick.
