Nikal gets green light for Eastside residential scheme

DEVELOPER Nikal has received planning permission for the its latest residential apartment scheme in Birmingham’s Eastside.

Christened Hutong, after the small neighbourhoods found in northern Chinese cities such as Beijing, the five floor development will occupy a 2,000 sq ft footprint on the southern edge of the Masshouse Plaza plot.

Offering a combination of 15 studio, one and two bedroom apartments with retail space on the ground floor, Hutong will sit adjacent to Nikal’s Hive scheme.

The firm says it is being developed to meet a strong demand for residential accommodation in that part of the city.

John Moffat, development director at Nikal, said: “It is clear from the overwhelming success of Hive that there is a genuine appetite in the market for good quality, design-led residential units.

“This is particularly true in Eastside, which is rapidly becoming one of Birmingham’s most desirable destinations with the delivery of HS2 and continued investment in the area.

“We chose the name Hutong as it is reflective of intelligent use of spaces, organic growth and the creation of a thriving neighbourhood atmosphere. This is the ethos behind this development and is a strong driver in realising the potential of this plot.”

Agent Knight Frank have been appointed to bring the apartments to the market.
